This Tasty Hot Drink Substitutes Mesquite for Cocoa
We call it, “Hot Mesquite-O.” You may just call it delicious.
This is an interesting desert substitute for hot chocolate. The mesquite flour has a flavor of its own and built-in sweetness, so it basically replaces the cocoa mix. This is one case where you use it straight up. Give this one a shot and see what you think. One of our tasters suggested the addition of some rum to create a warm cocktail, but we haven’t tried it … yet!
- 1 cup milk (whole milk makes it the creamiest, but reduced fat milk will work, too)
- 4 tsp. mesquite flour
- 1 tsp. sugar
- ¼ tsp. vanilla
- Place all ingredients in a sealable quart jar.
- Screw lid tightly in place and shake well until it’s very frothy. Give it at least a solid minute of vigorous shaking. More’s better.
- Pour into a saucepan and heat over fire stirring nearly constantly.
- Get it good and hot, but do not allow it to boil.
- Serve like hot chocolate.
