I venture into the outdoors to clear my mind, gain some perspective on things happening in my life, and take in the fresh air with outdoor activities. A big part of that whole process is keeping myself energized. Recently I have been trying to take better care of my body. A big part of that is diet. I look for foods that don’t slow me down when I’m out camping or hiking that are also great for me. By all appearances, Yumbutter seemed like a great option. Yumbutter has been changing the game with portable packaging to take with you on the go.

I found a few pouches around the 50 Campfires office and decided to put them to the test on a weekend trip filled with hiking and canoeing. Here’s what I found:

YumButter Sunflower

Portability: Not only is weight a consideration when camping and hiking, gear has to be portable and packable. The shape of the packet allows you to slide it between gear, in a pocket of your bag, or even a jacket pocket without slowing you down. We’re sure they are not the first to use the to-go pouch but they certainly have perfected it. Leave the camp stove at home and save weight in your pack! You get a ton of protein and healthy fats without the need to stop and cook. I love that! Not only is Yumbutter super portable, I was able to toss it in my pack with the rest of my gear without worrying that it would get punctured or leak over everything.

Taste: Being small batch, organic sunflower butter, you can really taste the quality of this product. The creamy organic sunflower seeds taste amazing. I’ve eaten this on the trail straight from the pouch or on fruit and protein bars and I can honestly say they both taste amazing. The Sunflower Butter tastes amazing on bananas! We recommend to really mix it up in the package as it can come out a tad liquidy.

Ease of Use: A twist top is about as easy as it gets. A counter-clockwise twist and you’re ready to refuel. Just throw the pouch in your pack and head out. When you’re ready for a snack just twist open the top and squeeze out sunflower butter. Easy. You’re ready to keep moving. Twist the top back on to seal everything up for your next adventure.

Value: At $6.99, you get a go-anywhere organic superfood packed with protein and Omega3. The pouch contains six servings with over 1,000 calories of pure, organic goodness! On top of all that awesomeness, Yumbutter feeds a child in need with every purchase of a Yumbutter Potion through their BUY ONE | FEED ONE holistic business model.
